Academic Meetings
2005 ‐ 2020
Supporting the development of junior doctors
As well being a valued mentor to young doctors in the early stages of their careers, Haroon also helps the ENT surgeons of tomorrow advance their knowledge and understanding by organising free ENT Society / IMRA charity academic meetings. Since 2005, he has arranged 23 meetings where specially invited experts share their knowledge and experience with less experienced ENT doctors.
Since 2005, he has arranged 23 meetings where specially invited experts share their knowledge and experience with less experienced ENT doctors.
Another example illustrating how Haroon secures leading experts to speak and share their knowledge with less experienced doctors is the 22nd Meeting of the ENT Society/IMRA Charity. For this event, Haroon attracted Dr Scharukh Jalisi, the Chief of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School teaching hospital Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an expert in surgical oncology trained in advanced techniques that have significantly improved outcomes for patients with head and neck tumours, to be the guest speaker.
Not only are these academic meetings free (in marked contrast to many similar commercial courses), the value of the content which Haroon puts together is such that they also count towards the attending ENT doctors' Continuing Professional Development.
Haroon has also helped final year ENT trainee doctors who want to become ENT consultants, by setting up and running six examination courses (FRCS Viva sessions).
International impacts
In 2018, Haroon helped arrange expert speakers from the UK, USA, and UAE to deliver keynote lectures at the Pakistan Society of Otorhinolaryngology's 28th ENT Conference in Lahore.
He was also instrumental in arranging master trainers from the UK, USA, and UAE to run four, hands-on, pre-conference workshops.
